2024 World Justice Project Index: Highlights Strengths in Anti-Corruption and Rule of Law in Hong Kong
Hong Kong has maintained its standing in the 2024 World Justice Project Rule of Law Index, ranking sixth in East Asia and the Pacific and 23rd globally out of 142 countries and jurisdictions, the government announced.
The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) highlighted that Hong Kong continues to surpass several European and American nations that frequently critique its rule of law and human rights situation. Improvements were noted in Regulatory Enforcement and Civil Justice, while scores in Open Government remained steady.
Hong Kong also rose to 10th globally for Absence of Corruption, reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s most corruption-free regions. HKSAR plans to strengthen its international stance on anti-corruption through collaboration with experts from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and abroad.
Despite slight declines in scores for Constraints on Government Powers, Fundamental Rights, Order & Security, and Criminal Justice, the government emphasized that these shifts do not undermine Hong Kong’s robust institutional framework or its rule of law under the “one country, two systems” principle.
HKSAR reiterated its commitment to a trusted legal system that safeguards residents’ rights, supported by the Basic Law and the Hong Kong Bill of Rights Ordinance.
